LAHORE (Kashmir English): Mufti Abdur Rahim, head of Jamia Tur Rasheed, has made a sensational revelation, saying that after the death of Mullah Omar, his son Mullah Yaqoob agreed to withdraw and let Mullah Mansour Akhtar become new Emir of Taliban, against half a million dollars.
He said after the death of his father, Mullah Yaqoob wanted to become Emir of the Taliban but he was pleased to receive 500,000 dollars to withdraw in favour of Mullah Mansour Akhtar.
Minister of Defence in Taliban regime
It should be noted that Mullah Yaqoob is currently the so-called Minister of Defence of Afghanistan.
Speaking in a private TV program, Mufti Abdur Rahim said that after Mullah Omar’s death, Mullah Yaqoob insisted that he be made the Emir.
Commenting further on the behind-the-scene story of resolving the leadership crisis, Mufti Abdur Rahim said Mullah Yaqoob was very young and knew nothing when the news of Mullah Omar’s passing came.
“He [Mullah Yaqoob] insisted that he be appointed the Emir instead of Mullah Mansour. So there was a formal consultation at a high level, and the leadership was of the view at that time that Mullah Yaqoob was a child and had not even seen Afghanistan, so how could he be appointed Emir?”
Mufti Abdur Rahim further said that when Mullah Mansour was appointed Taliban Emir, Maulvi Yaqoob was very upset, insisting that it was his right, and he was the successor.
So, to appease him, he was given five hundred thousand dollars so that he would be somewhat satisfied with the deal.
