MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In light of the upcoming Eid celebrations motorcycle theft in Muzaffarabad has been on the rise, the police have launched an awareness campaign to educate motorcycle owners about preventive measures to protect their vehicles.

As a part of this initiative, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) authorities published a list of measures the owners can take to decrease the risk of vehicle theft and protect their motorcycles. The owners have been urged to make sure that their vehicles remain locked when parked or not in use. The owners have also been encouraged to park in designated legal areas so the risk can be reduced.

In addition to that the police have recommended the installation of tracking devices in their vehicles to add another preventive measure. Any suspicious activity is encouraged to be reported upon the public’s notice as well.

This campaign also highlights the importance of having original documents, in possession and while travelling. Unregistered and fake documents have been identified in the region and all over Pakistan. This has prompted the need for owning original documentation.

Officials have also warned the locals that the stolen vehicles often get dismantled and then sold as separate parts. This makes recovery very difficult, often impossible. Keeping this in mind people have been urged to report theft or suspicious activity to the police.

Additionally, authorities have set up a dedicated helpline where people can report thefts or ask for assistance regarding motorcycle theft and security. Police have also assured the public that strict action will be taken against such criminals.

Speaking about the initiative, SHO Raja Muzaffar Khan stressed the shared responsibility of both law enforcement and the public in dealing with the rising number of thefts. Ensuring security is a collective duty. We urge citizens to follow these precautions and cooperate with the police to make our city safer, the authorities aimed.
