MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Monsoon rains continue in most parts of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the upper regions of the country, increasing the risk of possible flashfloods and landslides in the adjacent areas.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert and urged citizens and tourists to take precautions.
According to the Meteorological Department, the fifth series of monsoon rains is likely to continue till July 31, during which heavy rains are expected.
Muzaffarabad recorded a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and humidity of 92 percent, Rawalakot recorded 28 degrees and 96 percent humidity, and Kotli and Garhi Dupatta recorded a temperature of 36 degrees and humidity of 83 percent.
Clouds fell heavily in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Neelum Valley, and other areas, while the water level in the canals of Garhi Dupatta and Hattian Bala has risen.
The Meteorological Department and the district administration have instructed people living near the canals to remain alert.
Meanwhile, Islamabad and Rawalpindi received heavy rains, flooding low-lying areas. WASA Rawalpindi has imposed a rain emergency and put its staff on high alert.
90 mm of rain was recorded in Syedpur, 80 mm in Shamsabad, 78 mm in Katarian, 55 mm in PMD, and 52 mm in Pir Wadhai.
Heavy rains also occurred in other cities, including Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kalabagh, and Muzaffarabad. In the Darwishabad area of Abbottabad, the roof of a house collapsed due to rain, and two girls died under the debris.
The Meteorological Department and NDMA have warned that there is a risk of flooding and landslides due to rains in several areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
High flows and flooding have also been predicted in the rain drains of mountainous areas.
