MIRPUR (Kashmir English): In a bid to provide essential food items at affordable prices during the holy month of Ramadan, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz Chaudhry formally inaugurated the first inexpensive Mirpur Ramadan Bazaar on Sunday. The bazaar, set up outside the Mirpur Cricket Stadium Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), aims to ensure that consumers have access to essential goods at reduced prices.

Accompanying the Deputy Commissioner at the event were Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khawer Ali Shaukat, Jammu Kashmir United Movement Chief Sardar Rizwan Hanif, former Kashmir Press Club Mirpur-AJK President Altaf Hamid Rao, Tehsildar Imran Yousuf, Information Officer Muhammad Javed Malik, and other district administration officials.

People can find vegetables, fruits, soft drinks, pakoras, samosas, crockery, kitchen cloths, spices, and more daily-use items among the essential goods at the Ramadan Bazaar for lower prices than the regular open market prices. Chicken meat is available at 30 rupees less per kilogram according to the administration-mandated pricing. The tradition of setting up these bazaars spreads across different regions of Mirpur and neighboring districts after the concept successfully continued from past years.

Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz Chaudhry together with SSP Khawar Ali Shaukat reaffirmed that the state government will maintain uninterrupted food item deliveries throughout Ramadan. The district administration created a complaints cell for bazaar oversight and immediate response to public grievances during business operations at the Ramadan markets.

Jammu Kashmir United Movement ran its Ramadan Food Package drive by providing free meals to more than 5,000 underprivileged people through its charity welfare initiative. On Sunday, the organization set up more than 22 free meal services in various locations of Mirpur city to provide nourishment to underserved communities throughout the holy month.

The occasion was highlighted by Sardar Rizwan Hanif Ameer of Jammu and Kashmir United Movement in Azad Jammu and Kashmir when he spoke about the significance of generosity during Ramadan. The local traders received recognition from him for providing affordable prices to benefit the community more than generating profit.

During their visit to the Ramadan Bazaar, Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz along with SSP Khawar Ali Shaukat and other officials inspected diverse stalls to check both quality and pricing of goods accessible to buyers. The officials found the arrangements satisfactory, which guarantees consumers can buy necessary goods at affordable rates throughout Ramadan.
