MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Several Mirpur entities will hold a grand walk today (Wednesday) to pay tributes to over 75000 martyrs of deadly earthquake of October 8, 2005.
District Administration, global NGO Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) and the civil society will organize the walk on the 20th anniversary of the deadly earthquake that hit AJK in bulk besides adjoining Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on this day in 2005.
The walk will commence from Quaid-e-Azam Mirpur International Cricket Stadium at 7:30 pm, passing through various city streets including Quaid-e-Azam chowk, Mian Muhammad Road and central Shaheed Chowk, District Administration spokesman Javed Malik said.
People from all walks of life, social and political organizations, students, civil society, traders and journalists, will attend the event.
Martyrs of deadly earthquake
Sirens will be played at 08.52 am, the time that marks the devastating moment, to mark mourning and respect for the martyrs and other victims of the deadly earthquake.
The tremor had turned large parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir including State’s capital city of Muzaffarabad and Bagh, into rubble besides causing huge loss of lives and properties in other parts of AJK including Mirpur district.
