MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Sajid Aslam Chaudhry has inaugurated a rooftop cricket ground in Mirpur, the first of its own kind in Azad Kashmir.
The young cricket fans set up the rooftop netted cricket ground on self-help basis at a cost of around Rs2 million.
In his address of welcome, the host and inventor of this rooftop cricket ground project, Behzaad Mushtaq, said that the project will help promote domestic cricket in Azad Jammu and Kashmir providing a required conducive environment to the cricket lovers.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam Chaudhry said that the newly emerged AJK government headed by Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore is determined to produce quality future architects of the nation through delivering quality education besides the cricket and football-like healthy sports activities to the youth in the state.
Mirpur district has already a world-class Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah International Cricket stadium having the seating capacity of 25,000.
The DC said that Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Stadium ground will be made available for all professional and amateur cricketers.
Muslim Hands-run football ground
Similarly, the Muslim Hands-run football ground would be made available for all football players from across the city especially the children hailing from the thickly populated D/4 sector.
