ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Mirpur Development Authority (MDA) on Tuesday formally took back the control of Mirpur Cricket Stadium from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), officially terminating its agreement originally signed in 2008 and renewed in 2021.

As per the agreement, the Pakistan Cricket Board was bound to look after the venue and organise national and international matches. The stadium was given to PCB on rent initially for 30 years.

However, the order issued by the MDA stated that the agreement was cancelled due to the PCB’s failure to maintain the Mirpur Cricket Stadium, lack of interest in promoting cricket, and the deteriorating condition of the stadium’s infrastructure.

The MDA had earlier served a one-year notice to the PCB under Clause 18 of the agreement, demanding compliance and improvements.

The PCB, however, reportedly failed to take any meaningful action to rehabilitate the stadium or enhance cricketing activities in the region.

In light of these circumstances, the MDA has declared the agreement null and void with immediate effect.

The official order further directed that the PCB staff hand over the management of the Mirpur Cricket Stadium to the Parks and Horticulture Department without delay.

It also clarified that the Pakistan Cricket Board or its representatives will have no connection or association with the stadium.
