SAMAHNI (Kashmir English): In a shocking turn of events, a massive fire has broke out in the Samahni forest, which has caused a significant damage to the trees and land.
According to a spokesperson for the Forest Department, valuable trees have been burnt in the fire, while there is a possibility of damage to wildlife.
Officials say that forest department officials and civil society volunteers are trying to control the fire, but the fire has not been completely extinguished yet.
This is not the first time that a fire has broken out in the forests of Samahni. In June 2022, a fire continued to rage in the forests for several days, as a result of which dozens of chert trees were burnt. At that time, areas near Jandi Chontra, Kalach, Khizr Nagar, Tourist Rest House and Family Park were engulfed in flames.
An electrical transformer also fell to the ground in the tourist spot of Jandi Chontra due to the fire, due to which the power system was suspended.
Officials say that in view of the increasing incidence of forest fires, precautionary measures need to be taken to ensure the protection of valuable natural resources.
