MUZAFFARABAD (Safeer Raza Chughtai): Following the Tarbela and Chashma, the Mangla Dam has also reached their maximum capacity on Thursday, with the water level reaching 1,242 feet and a usable storage of 7.277 million acre-feet (MAF).
According to official data, this brings the total water storage in the three major dams to 13.316 million acre-feet, a development being described as highly encouraging for the agriculture and hydropower sectors.
Experts say the full reservoirs will help ensure an adequate water supply for Rabi crops and provide a steady flow for hydroelectric generation, reducing pressure on the national grid during peak demand.
The Mangla Dam, Pakistan’s largest water reservoir, has played a crucial role in supporting the national economy for over six decades.
Following the completion of the Mangla Renovation Project by WAPDA, the dam’s power generation capacity is expected to increase from 1,000 MW to 1,310 MW, adding an additional 310 MW to the system.
Officials have termed the development a positive indicator for the upcoming agricultural season and a welcome boost for the country’s energy stability.
