ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Railways on Friday said that the fares of trains would not increase, a day after a historic increase in petroleum products prices.
In a statement, the Railways Ministry said that the government has decided to bear the impact of the diesel price hike.
“A 30% increase in train fares had become unavoidable to cover operational costs,” it said.
However, the Prime Minister has directed Pakistan Railways not to increase fares for any class, according to the Pakistan Railways.
It said that no fares will be increased for any class, including Economy and AC classes. To facilitate the business community, no increase will be made in the fares of freight trains either, it added.
The statement said, “the government has taken on an additional burden of Rs6 billion until June 30.”
