LEEPA VALLEY (Kashmir English): In a groundbreaking development, the scenic region of Leepa Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) has witnessed a major engineering achievement as Leepa Valleys road upgrades with RCC shelters.
Newly constructed RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) shelters beyond Sher Gali Top have not only enhanced the natural beauty of the area but significantly reduced the danger posed by frequent avalanches.
In the past, this very road would become impassable during winters due to heavy snow and avalanches, causing severe disruption for tourists and cutting off local communities. However, these robust and modern concrete shelters have completely transformed the situation.
The RCC shelters are a remarkable example of modern engineering. Built to withstand the immense pressure of avalanches, these structures also feature natural cold water springs flowing through them, attracting tourists who often stop to take photos. Even in April, the shelters are seen blanketed with thick layers of snow, yet the road remains open and accessible.
The Azad Kashmir government has approved a budget of Rs 400 million for further improvements. This investment is expected to not only enhance road conditions but also promote tourism in the region. For the locals, this road is nothing less than a “lifeline” as it connects them to the outside world.
Residents recall the days before the shelters were built, when avalanches would block the road for extended periods. Now, they say, they feel safer and more connected, calling the project a revolutionary step by the government.
The RCC shelters are seen not just as a strong defense against harsh weather, but also as a new symbol of identity for Leepa Valley, thanks to their aesthetic appeal and strategic location.
Tourists are increasingly drawn to the valley, not just for its natural beauty but also to admire the modern construction.
With more development on the way, Leepa Valley is poised to become a major tourist destination, where nature, innovation, and safety come together in perfect harmony.
