KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Sindh government is going to offer solar units to farmers at highly subsidized rates under a scheme
Sindh Minister for Agriculture, Anti-Corruption, and Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, has announced that small and medium-scale farmers owning 5-25 acres of agricultural land are eligible to apply.
Solar scheme highlights
Under the scheme, a total of 295 solar units will be installed across 4,000 acres of farmland in the province. Farmers will contribute only 20% of the cost, while the provincial government will contribute the remaining 80%.
According to the officials, applications must be submitted by September 20 at the Director General Agriculture Office, Hyderabad.
The initiative aims to promote sustainable energy solutions in agriculture sector and reduce farmers’ reliance on traditional energy sources.
Furthermore, the Sindh government had also announced a scheme to provide free solar panels to households using up to 100 units of electricity each month.
Qualified customers can still apply to the Sindh Energy Department. Applications under this program can be submitted by those only who meet the requirements based on their electricity usage.
The provincial government had announced distribution of solar panels to 200,000 families. While 77,000 houses have already received solar panels, 123,000 more will receive panels in the upcoming phase, according to officials. If more than 123,000 applications are received, the winners will be chosen through a ballot mechanism.
