ACHRAL (Kashmir English): A kitchen gardening workshop focused on modern kitchen gardening methods was recently organised at the Boys High School Achral, Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK), aiming to promote efficient food production in limited spaces. The event was held under the supervision of the Agriculture Extension Centre Kamarbandi, a subsidiary body of the Department of Agriculture.
Many local participants especially women showed vivid interest to acquire sustainable home gardening practices at this workshop. Assistant Director Agriculture Extension Madam Khush Bakht led the workshop together with Field Assistant Shaukat and other departmental personnel.
The workshop experts trained participants through experiential learning to cultivate seasonal vegetables with basic and contemporary approaches at personal residences. The participants learned that basic gardening space includes home courtyards and rooftop areas, and small flower pots that allow effective fruit and vegetable cultivation. This approach makes it possible for families to grow a variety of vegetables at home without the need for large agricultural land.
Kitchen gardening, as explained during the session, is a method of home-based cultivation where individuals grow vegetables and herbs on a small scale. The practice serves people best who need fresh vegetables of high quality at affordable prices right where they live.
The experts have revealed that kitchen gardening offers pure chemical-free produce which simultaneously decreases household costs and builds food security while supporting environmentally sustainable practices. This approach lets people create beneficial change for their wellbeing together with environmental health improvements.
The participants commended the training because it presented both valuable content and down-to-earth applications. Attendees thanked the workshop planners and showed interest in organizing additional similar workshops because of the valuable material presented during the sessions.
The Kitchen gardening workshop finished its session by stressing the need to popularize kitchen gardening as a strategy to create strong communities that can manage their own health requirements.
