ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In view of the dense winter fog, the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) have partially closed key motorways on Monday for all types of traffic.

A Motorway Police spokesperson said that this decision was taken to protect the lives and property of the public so that possible accidents can be avoided promptly.

As per the details, the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, M-2, has been closed from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar for all types of traffic.

Similarly, the authorities have closed the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad Motorway, M-3, sections from Faizpur to Jaranwala and from Jaranwala to Darkhana due to dense fog.

The traffic on Motorway M-11, connecting Lahore and Sialkot, has been suspended from Lahore to Sambrial due to poor visibility caused by fog.

Authorities have taken timely and precautionary measures to safeguard travellers as dense fog continues to affect visibility across major highways.

The Motorway Police spokesperson emphasized that these closures are a proactive step aimed at preventing accidents during hazardous weather conditions. He warned that lane violations in fog can lead to serious and sometimes fatal accidents, urging road users to strictly follow lane discipline at all times.

Motorway Police have also advised citizens, especially urban residents, to prefer travelling during daylight hours.

According to officials, the safest time to travel in foggy conditions is between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Drivers have been instructed to use fog lights mandatorily, avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from speeding, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.

The Motorway Police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and urged commuters to cooperate with authorities. For real-time updates, guidance, or assistance.
