Justice Khalid Yousuf takes oath as Judge of AJK Supreme Court

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Newly appointed judge of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Justice Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, took the oath of office today.

Chief Justice of AJK Supreme Court, Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, administered the oath during a ceremony held at the Supreme Court of AJK in Muzaffarabad.

The oath-taking ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Secretary Law, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Government, Irshad Ahmed Qureshi, read out the notification of appointment of Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry as Judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry has previously served as a High Court Judge and was performing duties as a Custodian of Abandoned Properties at the time of his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

Senior SC Judge Justice Raza Ali Khan, Chief Justice High Court Justice Sardar Liaquat Hussain, Judge High Court Justice Khalid Rashid Chaudhry, Former Senior Judge Supreme Court Justice Khawaja Muhammad Naseem, Former Judge Supreme Court Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, Former Chief Justice High Court Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja, Chairman Service Tribunal, Chairman Environmental Tribunal, and Vice Chairman Bar Council Tariq Bashir participated.

Moreover, President Supreme Court Bar Association Raja Aftab Ahmed Khan, Secretary Supreme Court Bar Association, President High Court Bar Association Raja Waseem Younis, Secretary High Court Bar Association, President Central Bar Association Syed Anisul Hassan Gilani, office bearers and representatives of Bar Council and all Bar Associations of Azad Kashmir, Secretaries to the Government and lawyers from all over AJK joined the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif advised the President of AJK to appoint Justice Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir.

The prime minister’s advice was issued in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework that governs judicial appointments in AJK.

A three-member panel was formed to fill the vacant post of judge in the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir and sent it to the Chairman Kashmir Council and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif.
