HATTIAN BALA (Kashmir English): The funeral prayer of soldier Raja Uzair, who was martyred in the recent terrorist attack on Jaffar Express, was offered in his native village Kotla in Jhelum Valley district.
Another soldier, Khawaja Yasir, who died in a similar incident, was also laid to rest in his native village in Muzaffarabad.
A decorated contingent of the Pakistan Army saluted the martyr and senior army officials laid a wreath on the martyr’s grave.
Uzair, son of Muhammad Shafi, hailing from Union Council Gujar Bandi in Jhelum Valley, succumbed to injuries after being seriously injured in the Jaffar Express train hijack in Balochistan’s Bolan district.
According to deceased family, the soldier, 23, was serving in the Pakistan Army for the past two years and was returning home on leave when he was taken hostage by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
The funeral prayer, led by renowned religious scholar Allama Syed Muhammad Ishaq Naqvi, saw a large number of participants from the local people despite heavy rain.
The funeral prayer was attended by Education Minister Deewan Ali Chughtai, Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Valley Syed Ashfaq Gilani, bureaucracy, military officials, and civil society representatives.
Education Minister Deewan Ali Chughtai, who attended Uzair’s funeral, announced that the Government Primary School in the area would be named after Shaheed Raja Uzair to remember his sacrifice.
All the attendees paid tribute to the martyr and termed his sacrifice as great for the country and the nation.
