RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has announced to take legal action for Raja Ghulam Mujtaba’s release and to mobilize its strength for the Muzaffarabad rally on May 13.
This was decided during the consultation meeting held in Rawalakot on Thursday following the arrest of one of its core committee members, Ghulam Mujtaba, for his anti-Pakistani remarks.
According to the press release issued by JAAC, the meeting maintained that the Awami Action Committee has remained peaceful since May 11, 2024, despite the government’s actions. The committee appeals to the public to maintain peace and protect themselves from the government’s tactics.
Condemning the arrest of Mujtaba, the JAAC stated, “The police raided his house, violating his family’s privacy, and he was arrested even after the issuance of his explanatory statement on social media.”
“The government, particularly the Prime Minister and some ministers, have been trying to create a tense atmosphere in state,” he said.
The latest example of this is the creation of the Rangers Force, unjustified FIRs against various individuals, and a social media campaign to tarnish their character. The committee viewed these actions as a regrettable attempt to provoke the public, it added.
The committee has also expressed surprise that Sajjad Afzal, leader of the Awami Action Committee, was included in the FIR along with Raja Ghulam Mujtaba despite not being present at the ceremony.
The committee warned the government to abandon its attempts to push citizens toward violence and fulfill its promises.
