ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Islamabad Excise and Taxation (E&T) department has introduced number plates for vehicles on an ownership basis in what is a being described as a welcome step by the ICT administration.
Islamabad Excise and Taxation department has issued a notification regarding the decision to issue ownership-based vehicle number plates. The notification has been issued by the DG Islamabad Excise and Taxation.
According to Director Excise Islamabad, the department will issue a new number for the transferred vehicles.
Ownership-based number plate
According to the notification, the number issued to a vehicle will be permanently linked to the owner. The decision regarding ownership-based number plates will apply to numbers issued before and after the notification.
The seller of a vehicle will submit the said registration number to Islamabad Excise. The owner can keep the vehicle number in his name for one year without use, according to the notification. “If not used within one year, the vehicle number will be cancelled,” said Bilal Azam, Director Excise Islamabad.
