ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Islamabad Food Authority has intensified its crackdown on unsafe food supplies, seizing 160 kilograms of unhygienic and unfit meat during an inspection here on the Golra Road.
According to officials, the meat was being transported without proper documentation or safety measures. “The seized meat carried no slaughterhouse stamps and emitted a foul odor,” said Dr. Tahira Siddique, Deputy Director of the food authority. She added that the storage conditions and the temperature were also in violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Substandard meat
The Meat Safety Team disposed of the substandard meat on-site to prevent it from entering the city’s food supply chain. Dr. Siddique emphasized that the authority is committed to eliminating the supply of unfit-for-consumption meat in Islamabad. “We will ensure that unsafe meat never reaches consumers. Surprise inspections are being conducted daily to maintain strict oversight,” she said.
The Islamabad Food Authority has recently increased enforcement measures following public concerns about the sale of substandard and contaminated meat in local markets. The authority has initiated surprise checks on slaughterhouses, storage facilities, and transportation vehicles to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards. Under the IFA Act, suppliers found guilty of distributing unfit meat can face heavy fines, licence revocation, and potential criminal charges.
