ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Islamabad district administration has made the e-tag mandatory for vehicles in the federal capital, as a part of a larger initiative, Safe Secure Islamabad, to ramp up the city’s security.

Earlier on Thursday, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced that it would be mandatory for all vehicles in the city to have electronic tags (e-tags).

The minister also announced a first-of-its-kind new ‘ICT Household Survey’ or ‘Secure Neighbourhood Survey’ would be launched, which would allow the administration to know who was occupying every house, shop, or office in the capital with information about the number of people, their age, their nationality, whether the place was rented or self-owned, and more.

In a post on X, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon announced that the issuance of E-tags for vehicles in the federal capital will commence from November 18 at designated points.

“An M-tag sticker will be mandatory for every vehicle operating on the roads of Islamabad (including those registered in Islamabad and other provinces),” he wrote.

Memon further confirmed that the citizens will be informed in advance regarding the designated points.

Are e-tag and m-tag the same?

Yes, the e-tag can also be called m-tag, which citizens use to pay tolls on motorways. The DC Islamabad, in his post on X, also mentioned that an M-tag sticker will be mandatory for every vehicle operating on the roads of Islamabad (including those registered in Islamabad and other provinces).

Islamabad has made e-tags mandatory for all vehicles entering the capital, with enforcement beginning after a two-week grace period from the initial announcement on November 12, 2025. Vehicles without the e-tag will be denied entry.

All vehicles, including those of the residents and daily commuters, must have a valid e-tag to enter Islamabad.

In another post on X, the DC Islamabad said that the ICT Household Survey App has been made available on the Google Play Store, where citizens can enter their data.

“Islamabad’s 885 residents have already entered data on the ICT Household Survey App of the district administration, thereby proving their responsibility as citizens on the first day, while 2,039 citizens are in the registration process,” he wrote.

The announcement comes after a suicide bombing outside the district courts in Islamabad’s G-11 area on Tuesday killed at least 12 people and injured 36 others.

The incident occurred as international events were being hosted in the capital, including the first one-day international (ODI) match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.

After the recent attack, the law enforcement agencies beefed up the security of courts, government offices, and important installations. Also, checks have been tightened at entry points, checkpoints, and highways.
