IRD AJK launches tax recovery drive, serves notices to defaulters

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of Azad Jammu Kashmir government (South Zone) has served notices to tax defaulters in the region directing them to deposit the tax arrears pending against them by the end of this fiscal year – June 30.

The government / semi-government departments which were served the notices included Mirpur Development Authority, Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), PWD, BISE Mangla Dam Housing Authority (MDHA), Kotli Development Authority (KDA), Local Government and Rural Development and others.

Commissioner IRD ( South) Anser Ali Syed said that it has been observed that there is considerable amount of tax arrears without litigation with each Inland Revenue Circle.

Notices for recovery of tax arrears

Reportedly, the Circle Officers issued notices for recovery of tax arrears. As a significant amount on account of income tax, sales tax, and professional tax is pending in arrears with different Inland Revenue Circles, so there was a dire need to launch a full-fledged recovery drive, especially at this point in time, when the fiscal year is approaching towards its closure, he said.

The Commissioner Inland Revenue further stated that public notices have already been issued for awareness of general public regarding depositing outstanding tax arrears, wherein the last date for payment of arrears was 10th of June, 2025.
