TEL AVIV (Kashmir English): Explosions were heard over Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on Friday night as sirens sounded in the two Israeli cities following what the country’s military spokesman said was the firing of missiles from Iran.
IRNA, Iran’s state news agency, said hundreds of ballistic missiles had been fired as part of “Operation True Promise 3”, in retaliation for Israel’s biggest ever attacks on Iran.
Israeli attacks blast Iran’s underground nuclear site
Israeli attacks on Iran on Thursday night blasted Iran’s huge underground nuclear site at Natanz and wiped out its top military commanders.
Iranian state media said the forces downed two Israeli fighter jets and detained one pilot.
“At least two Israeli F-35 fighter jets were shot down in Iranian skies,” the official IRNA news agency reported, without sharing further details.
Al Jazeera, citing Israeli newspaper Haaretz, reported that at least 15 people have been wounded in central Israel, including one with moderate injuries.
According to Iranian media, Tehran’s response to Israel’s unprovoked attack had “officially begun,” marking a sharp escalation in regional tensions.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also said they carried out attacks against dozens of targets in Israel in retaliation for the latter’s biggest attacks ever against Iran.
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, rejected calls on Tehran to show restraint following Israel’s large-scale deadly attack on the Islamic nation.
According to an Iranian foreign ministry statement, the Iran’s Foreign Minister “rejected calls for Iran to show restraint in the face of Israeli aggression” in call with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
International media quoted an Iranian senior official as having said that nowhere in Israel will be safe, and added that the country’s revenge will be painful.
