WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Donald Trump has said that Iran allowed oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture during ongoing back-channel talks with the United States.
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said Iran initially allowed eight large oil tankers to pass through the important oil route. He said he came to know about this after watching news reports that showed unusual tanker movement in the Strait of Hormuz.
“They said, to show you that we are serious, we will let eight boats of oil pass,” Trump said. He added that later Iran sent two more tankers, making the total number ten.
Trump also claimed that the oil tankers appeared to be operating under the flag of Pakistan or Pak-flagged tankers, suggesting a possible role of Pakistan in the movement.
He described this step as a “very significant gesture” and said it shows that talks between Washington and Tehran are moving forward, even though they are mostly happening quietly behind the scenes.
