ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirms the restoration of the Sea Me We 5 (SMW5) International Submarine Cable System, which caused an interruption of internet service throughout the country.

“This incident resulted from a fault on the SMW5 cable,” said a statement by PTA officials. “Its repair resolves the current Internet service issues for users who were impacted since Thursday night.”

“All internet traffic has now normalized,” they added. This occurred due to a fault on an SMW5 submarine cable that impacted a significant proportion of the international IP transit capacity of one of its customers, Transworld Associates (TWA).

Internet traffic during this time was rerouted using alternate international links to ensure minimal service degradation.

Throughout this period, PTA continued working with TWA and other stakeholders to ensure the timely restoration of these connections after coordinating with the SMW5 Consortium responsible for restoring the cable.

With the SMW5 cable back into full operation, however, today’s announcement from PTA officials shows that internet services have stabilized in all parts of the country.
