ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The London Metropolitan Police has identified and charged an Indian-origin British man for attacking the Pakistani High Commission in London on Sunday during the protest.
As tensions between Pakistan and India, the diaspora from both nations came face to face in front of the missions of both countries in central London, over the weekend, chanting derogatory slogans and making offensive gestures against each other.
Following the protest, the Pakistani High Commission was vandalised, leading to property damage and saffron-colored paint on the building’s exterior and its plaque, along with shattered windowpanes.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday alleged that India was responsible for an attack on the High Commission building. He said that our high commission was attacked twice, and stones were thrown.
The Met Police confirmed that a 41-year-old man, identified as Ankit Lowe, was arrested at the scene.
Revealing the details, Kingston and Chelsea Met Police spokesperson said that Lowe has been charged with criminal damage after an incident happened at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, at the Pakistan High Commission.
The Indian-origin Ankit was remanded in custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on April 28.
In a statement, the Met Police confirmed that officers were responding to reports of a man smashing windows at the Pakistani High Commission and that a 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in custody.
Eyewitnesses said eggs and saffron dye were also thrown at the embassy walls.
