SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): Indian forces personnel, in their unabated acts of state terrorism, have martyred over 1,059 Kashmiris in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019.
According to a report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces, including the army, paramilitary, Border Security Force, Special Operations Group, and police personnel, have martyred 1,059 Kashmiris, including 22 women, since August 5, 2019, in the internationally recognized disputed territory illegally occupied by it since October 1947.
The report said that the abrogation of the special status of IIOJK by the BJP government on August 5, 2019, in gross violation of United Nations resolutions and international laws, has turned the territory into a military cantonment, silencing all voices and snatching the rights as well as local and natural resources of the oppressed people.
The report maintained that most of the victims were killed in fake encounters and custody, as youth were picked up from their homes and later eliminated after being dubbed as mujahideen or over-ground workers.
It added that at least 2,690 people were critically injured due to the use of brute force, pellets, and tear gas shells by Indian troops, paramilitary, and police personnel on peaceful demonstrators and mourners in the territory.
It further said that the killings rendered 83 women widowed and 232 children orphaned during the period.
Hundreds of government employees, mostly Muslims, were terminated or suspended from their services on fabricated charges and for supporting the demand for political justice.
The report added that hundreds of properties, including houses, lands, offices, and schools, have been seized by the Bharatiya Janata Party regime in the territory since August 2019.
The report pointed out that the entire occupied Kashmir has been turned into an open-air prison, and over 3,000 Hurriyat leaders, political and human rights activists, religious figures, journalists, and businessmen were arrested before and after August 5, 2019, under draconian laws.
Many of them continue to remain detained in Tihar and other jails in India and occupied Kashmir.
