NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): Security was intensified around key religious and heritage sites in Delhi on Saturday, including the Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk, following claims by Indian authorities of a “possible terror threat.”

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian officials citing so-called intelligence inputs suggested a potential attack allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based group.

Delhi Police and central agencies increased surveillance, deployed additional personnel, and placed bomb disposal squads and quick reaction teams on standby.

The alert reportedly cited a temple in Chandni Chowk as a potential target and hinted at an Improvised Explosive Device (IED)-based attack, allegedly in retaliation for the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.

India stoking anti-Pakistan sentiment

Observers say India is using such “terror threat” narratives to stoke anti-Pakistan sentiment and to malign the Kashmir freedom movement, portraying legitimate political dissent as a security risk.

The security tightening comes after the November 10, 2025 car explosion near the Red Fort, which Indian authorities have repeatedly invoked to justify heightened measures and to push an anti-Kashmir narrative.

Security agencies have urged the public to remain vigilant while asserting that the measures are precautionary. However, analysts argue that such actions are often used by the India to create a climate of fear, suppress dissent, and manipulate perceptions about Pakistan and the Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom.
