MUMBAI: In a thrilling match between (Ind W vs SA W) at Mumbai, the Indian Women have clinched their first-ever Cricket World Cup.
The host team defeated the Proteas by 52 runs in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match.
While chasing the target of 299, the Proteas were all out on 246 runs.
South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, showed brilliant batting and scored a century of 101 runs off 98 balls, which included 11 fours and a six.
Opener Tazmin Brits also added 23 runs but was run out and returned to the pavilion, while Anneke Bosh was out lbw without scoring any runs.
Sune Luus scored 25 runs, and Marizanne Kapp was out for 4 runs. Wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta scored 16 runs.
Nadine de Klerk scored 18 runs, while Ayabonga Khaka was run out for just one run. Nonkululeko Mlaba remained unbeaten on 0.
Deepti Sharma took five wickets in the Match while Shafali Verma sent two batters to the pavilion.
Earlier in the first inning, Shafili Verma provided a strong foundation for the team with a quick innings of 87 runs, while Smriti Mandhana supported her with 45 runs. Both added 104 runs in the first wicket partnership.
Shafali Vermascored 87 runs off 78 balls, which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. This was her first ODI fifty in three years and her fifth half-century overall.
In the middle overs, the South African bowlers tried to make a comeback, with Iyabonga Khaka taking 3 wickets to slow down the Indian batting, while Nonkululeko Mlaba got the important victory by dismissing captain Harmanpreet Kaur for 20 runs.
In the end, Deepti Sharma batted responsibly and scored 58 runs and supporting the innings. Richa Ghosh played a key role in taking the team’s score to 298 by playing a quick innings of 34 runs off 24 balls.
India scored 298 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, and gave South Africa a target of 299 runs to win.
