SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned India for persecuting illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists for their political beliefs.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in statements issued on Wednesday, the leaders said the Modi regime is targeting Hurriyat leaders for opposing India’s illegal occupation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“India is subjecting incarcerated Hurriyat leaders and activists to vengeance for challenging its illegal hold on Kashmir,” they said. The leaders maintained that Kashmiri political activists have been illegally arrested on malicious and fabricated charges to silence dissent.

They said the Indian government is behaving cruelly towards incarcerated Hurriyat leaders and other political prisoners. “The Modi regime is invoking draconian laws to detain Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders and activists and deny them due process,” the statements read.

The Hurriyat leadership said Kashmiri political prisoners are being subjected to torment with the sole purpose of defeating the Kashmir freedom struggle.

They called on the international community and human rights bodies to take notice of India’s actions and press for the immediate release of all illegally detained Kashmiri leaders and activists.

The statements come amid growing concern over the treatment of Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in jails across India and IIOJK.
