ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Higher Education Commission (HEC) under a strict policy regarding the establishment of new universities and sub-campuses at the tehsil level, has announced that no new institution could be established without its prior permission.

The commission has issued a letter to the vice-chancellors and heads of all universities, making it clear that the establishment of any sub-campus or university will not be possible without the prior approval of the HEC and scrutiny of the institution.

According to media reports, the letter made it clear that the commission will not grant NOC, accreditation or facilitate verification of degrees to any institution that has been established against the policy.

The commission also expressed its reservations over the lack of PhD faculty, low number of students and limited educational programmes at the tehsil-level campuses.

HEC imposes ban on advertisements

The education watchdog has immediately suspended all sub-campuses and such applications, while a complete ban has been imposed on advertisements and admissions in these institutions.

It has further stated that in case of violation of the policy, the approval of the campuses and programmes can also be cancelled.

All universities have been directed to strictly follow the new policy.
