LEEPA VALLEY (Kashmir English): Leepa Valley is currently shrouded in dark clouds, and the weather conditions are changing rapidly. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are likely in Leepa Valley and its surroundings from today to January 2, while heavy snowfall is expected in the upper areas and on the Lipa highway.
The overall weather situation in Kashmir has started to change. Snowfall continues on the mountains of Neelum Valley, while light rain has been recorded in the urban population. According to weather experts, this change is being linked to the westerly wind system that is entering the country from today.
The Meteorological Department says that this westerly wind system may cause intermittent rains in the next few days. Intermittent rain and moderate snowfall have been predicted in Kashmir under this weather system, while the intensity of cold is likely to increase further in the upper areas.
Most of the upper and western parts of the country are expected to remain partly cloudy on Tuesday. Light rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, and snowfall on the mountains are likely at a few places in northwestern and southern Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Similarly, rain and snowfall are also likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas in the evening and night, while moderate to heavy fog has been predicted in the districts of northeastern and southern Punjab.
Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, and snowfall on the mountains, have been expected in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, and the Potohar region on Wednesday, while the weather is likely to be cold and partly cloudy in other parts of the country.
During the last 24 hours, the weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country; however, the weather remained partly cloudy in the upper and western areas, and rain was recorded at a few places.
During this time, moderate to heavy fog prevailed in various parts of Punjab. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was minus 8 in Leh, minus 4 in Gopis, while negative temperatures were also recorded in Bagroot, Skardu, and other areas.
According to the administration, all highways are currently restored; however, instructions have been issued to citizens to take precautionary measures so that any emergency can be dealt with in time. In view of the further cold weather, the public has been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and adopt safety measures.
