Gujar Bandi water channel rebuilds after damaged in 2005 earthquake

HATTIAN BALA (Kashmir English): Minister For Education Azad Kashmir Dewan Ali Khan Chughtai inaugurated the reconstructed water channel in the Gujar Bandi village, located in Jhelum Valley on Thursday.

The water channel, used to generate power, was rebuilt 20 years after it was affected during the 2005 earthquake.

Minister of State Chughtai inaugurated the hydropower project during his visit to the Gujar Bandi, situated in Constituency LA-33 (Hattian Bala-II) on Thursday, where he was warmly welcomed by the people of the area.

Along with this, he stated that a filtration plant will also be installed in Gujar Bandi so that people can be provided with clean water.

In addition to that, he announced that start work soon on the Pahal and Chakhama water channels and the government will provide funds for this according to its means. He further said that steps are also being taken regarding the Greater Water Supply Scheme.

Chairman District Council Tayyab Manzoor Kiyani and Deputy Commissioner Syed Ashfaq Gilani were also present along with the Minister of State.

Talking on the occasion, he said that there were many difficulties in completing this project, however, it was completed with the efforts of the government. “The previous governments also did their part, but the people have felt significant improvement during our government,” he reiterated.

Furthermore, the Minister also expressed his determination to continue the development projects in the area as per the vision of Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. He said that the local people have fully cooperated in the construction of the Gujarbandi water channel.

Minister for Education also visited the office of the Agriculture Department in Jhelum Valley, where he inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting a sapling.

He also appreciated the agricultural activities of the Agriculture Department, stating that our survival and success lie in the fact that we cultivate our lands and the Agriculture Department should attract landowners towards self-sufficiency.
