ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, the Coordination Committee of Local Government Representatives of Azad Kashmir has announced a significant press conference to be held tomorrow March 9, 2025.
The press conference is scheduled to take place at 2 pm at the National Press Club in Islamabad.
The press conference aims to address pressing issues related to the ongoing local government protest movement, the Supreme Court’s decision dated February 19, 2025, and the attitude of the government towards the court.
Additionally, the committee will discuss the reasons for the government’s deviation from the court decision, which has led to district/local governments in Azad Kashmir remaining inactive.
Moreover, the committee will address not transferring funds and powers to local government institutions and representatives.
Furthermore, the committee will express concerns over the government’s planned legislation/bill aimed at affecting and deactivating the court decision.
The Central Focal Person has urged that the members of the Coordination Committee, all elected local government leadership (including councilors) from all over Azad Kashmir should ensure their participation at the National Press Club, Islamabad on Sunday, March 9 at 2 pm to attend the press conference.
The press conference aims to bring attention to the plight of local governments in Azad Kashmir and push for a solution that upholds the rights and powers of local government institutions.
