RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): The government has declared April 9 and 10 as local holidays in Rawalpindi due to the neighbouring city Islamabad hosting talks between Iran and the US.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema issued a notification in this regard late Wednesday night.
He, however, said that all necessary services shall remain operational.
Islamabad talks on April 11
The development came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Islamabad would host delegations from the United States and Iran, following the announcement of a ceasefire.
Pakistan, which has forged a close relationship with US President Donald Trump and is sensitive to developments in neighbouring Iran, has emerged as a channel for messaging between Tehran and Washington in recent weeks.
Separately, PM Shehbaz said that Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed Tehran’s participation in the “Islamabad talks” to finalise a settlement to their conflict.
The confirmation came during a 45-minute phone call between PM Shehbaz and Pezeshkian, he wrote in a post on X.
