ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has enforced stricter rules regarding social media and media usage by government officials.
The government has directed employees that they cannot engage in self-promotion through social media sites.
Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, the Establishment Division informed that new guidelines have been developed in connection with government employees’ engagement in social media and media sites, while a special monitoring cell will also be set up to monitor the process.
According to the guidelines, government officials cannot utilize their official capacity for self-promotion or publicity about government-related affairs unless there is prior approval for such actions.
This step has been taken in order to avoid leaking any government-related data, engaging in self-branding in official capacities, and any other social media activity conflicting with the code of conduct of the government.
The government had previously placed certain restrictions upon media activities by its employees.
According to the directives issued earlier, government servants must seek prior clearance before appearing on any media channel and are forbidden from divulging any official/confidential data.
