KARACHI (Kashmir English): As the rumors of gold found in Karachi’s Malir River went viral on social media, a large number of people flocked to the Korangi Causeway along the riverbed on Saturday.

Citizens, including women and children, rushed to the area with shovels and sieves to dig through the river sand, hoping to unearth particles of the precious metal from the riverbed.

Dozens of people can be seen digging pits in different spots along the river. Videos of the search went viral on social media, showing locals digging and collecting sand in buckets.

The district administration has urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid believing unverified rumors. Authorities have confirmed that there is no credible evidence of gold being discovered in the area.

A city administration spokesperson said, “There is no official confirmation or scientific basis for the presence of gold in the Malir River.” He urged the public not to fall for rumors and to avoid gathering in potentially hazardous areas.

Residents who have been digging at the site told the media that no gold has been found. They, however, admitted to unearthing small fragments of brass, copper, or even animal bones, but nothing of significant value.

It is worth mentioning that the area along the Korangi Causeway is known for being a garbage dumping site and for pollution caused by industrial waste.
