Former AJK President Syed Ali Ahmed Shah remembered on his 35th death anniversary

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The 35th death anniversary of former President of Azad Kashmir and prominent leader of the Kashmir Freedom Movement, Ghazi Millat Captain General Syed Ali Ahmed Shah, was officially observed across the state today with great devotion and respect.

The day was remembered with the renewal of the pledge to continue the mission of the departed leader to bring the Kashmir freedom movement to its logical end with complete success.

President and Prime Minister of AJK Chaudhry Anwarul Haq paid rich tributes to him and said that the deceased was one of the prominent Kashmiri leaders who presented the historic Accession to Pakistan Resolution during a meeting held in Srinagar on 19 July 1947.

“As the President of Azad Kashmir, he formed a revolutionary army in Azad Kashmir and added religious affairs to government departments,” the premier said in a statement.

“He was counted among the companions of Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and played a prominent role in the struggle of the Kashmir Freedom Movement and was among those who presented the Accession to Pakistan resolution in Srinagar on July 19, 1947.”

On August 14, 1947, Shah came to Pakistan from where he provided military training to the Mujahideen to liberate the areas of Mirpur, Dadial, and Bhimber from the Dogra rule.

“Ghazi Millat Captain General Syed Ali Ahmed Shah was a fearless, sincere, courageous, and highly capable leader whose integrity and nobility no one can raise a finger against,” the prime minister said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell, District Administration, Auqaf Department, and Syed Ali Ahmed Shah Memorial Society laid the wrath at the Mazar-e-Sharif of the deceased and offered Fateha in his native city of Mirpur.

A large number of people from all walks of life including President Syed Ali Ahmed Shah Memorial Society Secretary General Qaiser Shiraz Kazmi, Mirpur, Kashmir Press Club Mirpur President Syed Abid Hussain Shah, Business community leader Raja Khalid Mahmood Khan, Presidents of their respective factions of local traders unions, social and political activists and others were also present on this occasion.

Quran Khawani was held for the departed soul besides a special function to pay glorious tributes to the departed Kashmiri leader.
