MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Food Authority of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has launched a strict crackdown to ensure the supply of safe and quality food items across all districts, following court directives.
This action comes in light of two ongoing legal cases — “Shaher Zaman vs. Food Authority” in the Supreme Court and “Frozen Food vs. Municipal Magistrate” in the High Court. In response, the Food Authority has issued clear instructions to all food controllers and food safety officers to tighten inspections and enforcement.
According to the official statement, teams will be checking the quality of frozen food, milk, bottled water, beverages, spices, and other food products. Special attention will be given to meat quality, hygienic slaughtering processes, and cleanliness standards in markets and shops.
The Food Authority has made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for unregistered, substandard, or unlabeled food items sold without proper lab reports. Strict legal action will be taken against violators, without any discrimination.
Officials confirmed that Food Authority teams are already conducting daily inspections at markets, hotels, bakeries, and general stores. So far, several vendors found selling unsafe or low-quality food have faced heavy fines and legal penalties.
In addition, the public has been asked to remain alert while purchasing food items. Citizens are encouraged to check packaging, labeling, and hygiene, and report any suspicious or harmful products to the Food Authority immediately.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve food safety standards in Azad Kashmir and protect public health. Authorities believe consistent monitoring and public cooperation will help eliminate unsafe food from the market.
