Food Authority cracks down on substandard food items in Athmuqam

 NEELUM (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority has inspected the main market of Athmuqam, Neelum Valley district, destroying substandard food items and imposing a fine on shopkeepers.

According to the details, the team, led by District Food Controller Syed Shujaat Hussain Naqvi, destroyed food items worth Rs 3,500, including biscuits, juices, and toffees, on the spot due to being substandard and unsafe.

Additionally, 5 kg of substandard cooking oil was also destroyed, the food authority said in a statement.

Moreover, a total fine of Rs 21,500 was imposed on shopkeepers who violated food safety regulations.

It further said that the samples of defective cooking oil snack items from non-registered companies were sent to the laboratory for analysis.

“Correction notices were issued to several shopkeepers, directing them to improve their activities in accordance with food safety laws,” the food authority said.

The Food Authority emphasized the importance of registering products and strictly directed shopkeepers to get their products registered.
