NEELUM (Kashmir English): Torrential rains in the upper Neelum Valley have triggered a flash flood in Janwai Nullah, causing significant damage to infrastructure and local businesses in Janwai village in Grace Valley.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the flood resulted in significant damages to shops, gharats [water mills], a bridge, and widespread destruction of maize crops and fruit trees.
As per the incident report, the main market in Janwai has suffered substantial damage, with seven shops, including a medical store and clinic, fully destroyed and two partially damaged.
Moreover, two gharats were completely destroyed in the flooding, and a bridge connecting Janwai and Siri was also damaged.
The district authorities stated that people living along the Nullah had been relocated to safer areas. The SDMA stated that no human or livestock loss has been reported so far.
It said that upon receiving information, the police post at Janwai, rescue authorities, and local people took timely action, preventing the public and livestock from major damage.
The relevant agencies have directed the locals and tourists to stay away from rivers, mountain paths and dangerous places in such weather, and to check the weather conditions before traveling.
