ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The first round of high-stakes, face-to-face peace talks between the United States and Iran concluded in Islamabad early Sunday morning, after a marathon 14-hour session.
While both sides seem spirited to resolve the issue, the summit paused without a final resolution on a permanent end to the seven-week-old war.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf led the delegations, marking the highest level of face-to-face contact between the two nations since 1979.
Control of the Strait of Hormuz remains the primary sticking point. President Trump has claimed that the US has begun mine-clearing operations to reopen the waterway.
After the plenary session, technical teams from both sides would exchange documents. Pakistan, acting as the primary mediator, has transformed its diplomatic standing by hosting the “Islamabad Talks” which are likely to continue even today (Sunday).
