ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam on Tuesday directed the immediate implementation of the agreement reached with the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) as the first round of post-agreement talks concluded.

The federal government representatives assured the JAAC of full implementation of the agreement signed between both parties earlier this month, ending the protest and unrest in the state, which claimed lives and paralysed the region for days.

The meeting of the Implementation and Monitoring Committee was held today in the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs in Islamabad. The next meeting was scheduled on November 15 in Muzaffarabad.

From the Awami Action Committee, Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri, and Imtiaz Aslam participated, while federal ministers Engineer Amir Muqam and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry represented the federal government.

Chief Secretary of Azad Kashmir Khushal Khan and Secretary for Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan, Zafar Hassan, were also present.

Addressing the meeting, Amir Muqam stated that the Prime Minister of Pakistan is keen to provide maximum relief to the people of Azad Kashmir, reaffirming that all available resources would be utilized to resolve public issues effectively.

During the meeting, the AJK Chief Secretary gave a briefing on the implementation of the agreement. The Implementation Committee directed the relevant departments to implement the agreement.

Earlier this month, the representatives of the government of Pakistan, Azad Kashmir, and JAAC agreed to form a committee to oversee the implementation of the points agreed between the opposing sides. The decision to this effect was taken after an hour-long, hectic round of talks between the parties.

The talks over a 38-point charter of demands were earlier broken down over the abolition of elite privileges and 12 seats reserved for Pakistan-based refugees from India Kashmir. However, the talks resumed, and both sides agreed on demands and decided to form a committee to implement them.
