ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a move to curb the negative influence on youth, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated action against social media users who show off their wealth, sources said.
Details indicate that the FBR has compiled a list of approximately 100,000 affluent individuals. Lavish spenders on weddings who are not filers will also be brought under the scanner, sources added.
The authority has made a list of individuals posting pictures on social media showing off their lavish lifestyle, such as mansions, luxury cars, jewelry, and other belongings.
Sources revealed that people who dress in suits as expensive as $20,000 at weddings would also be caught by the tax net. The FBR would make such persons disclose their sources of income.
Additionally, the tax department will compare income tax returns last year with this year’s income tax returns. In case tax declarations show no rise as per apparent expenses and luxuries, measures will be taken against such taxpayers, sources said.
