ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A social media report that Islamabad’s Margalla Hills are likely to receive snowfall this week is false.
Current weather forecasts for the region show temperatures far too high for snow formation, indicating the media reports are inaccurate.
The claim
The social media post in Pakistan circulated claims that the Margalla Hills, a range of hills north of the capital city of Islamabad, would receive snowfall in the coming days.
The fact
Weather forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) for Islamabad and surrounding areas shows high temperatures ranging from approximately 23°C to 24°C and low temperatures between 12°C and 13°C for the upcoming week (November 14-20, 2025).
The current conditions are sunny and dry. Snow forms when the atmospheric temperature is at or below freezing (0°C or 32°F).
While snow can sometimes reach the ground when the surface temperature is slightly above freezing, it generally will not form if the ground temperature is at least 5°C (41°F).
Snowfall on Margalla Hills
Snowfall on the Margalla Hills in Islamabad is a rare event, often only after a decade, when temperatures in the city drop significantly.
The forecasted low temperatures of 12°C-13°C are significantly higher than those required for snow to fall or accumulate on the hills.
