JHELUM (Kashmir English): Renowned Islamic scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been booked under alleged blasphemy charges, a day after his arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.
As per details, police lodged the first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Humair Ali Qadri at City Police Station Jhelum on August 26.
The FIR stated that Mirza used blasphemous remarks in a video that has recently gone viral on social media. “Mirza has severely hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims by making blasphemous remarks”, the FIR read.
The police stated that the case includes Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with blasphemy-related offenses, and provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
Earlier on Monday, Jhelum Police arrested Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza from Jhelum and sealed his academy.
Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Meesam Abbas confirmed Mirza’s arrest under MPO for 30 days for alleged controversial remarks.
Furthermore, district authorities also sealed Qur’an & Sunnat Research Academy, locking its premises to prevent any gatherings or activities.
