JHELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): The district administration of Jhelum Valley has issued an emergency alert following continuous monsoon rains that have made roads and travel routes dangerous due to landslides. Deputy Commissioner Ms. Beenish Jarral warned residents and travelers about the high risk of landslides in several parts of the valley and urged extreme caution.
The Jhelum Valley region, which often experiences landslides during the monsoon season, has seen several key roads affected, including those in Chakar, Chinari, Chakothi, Reshian, Lamnian, and Leepa Valley. Authorities have warned that these roads are currently unsafe for traffic. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, and transporters have been urged to delay their trips until weather conditions improve.
Ms. Jarral instructed departments like the Roads, Electricity, and Municipal Services to stay alert and prepare all machinery and equipment to handle any emergency. Local bodies have also been told to remain on standby and to ensure a rapid response in case of any crisis.
Tourists planning to visit Jhelum Valley have also been asked to delay their trips, as conditions at popular tourist spots could turn dangerous during heavy rainfall. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the safety of citizens and tourists is the top priority.
Residents living near rivers and streams have been advised to move to safer locations. Emergency teams have already begun relocating at-risk families in vulnerable areas to avoid any loss of life.
Ms. Jarral also stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and functioning drainage system so that rainwater can flow freely and not cause urban flooding. She said that protecting lives and property is the district administration’s key focus during this challenging weather period.
The people of Jhelum Valley are urged to follow official advisories and avoid taking risks during the ongoing monsoon spell.
