NEW YORK (Kashmir English): American technology company ‘XAI’ has launched a new online encyclopedia based on artificial intelligence, “Grokipedia”, led by Elon Musk. This platform is being described as an alternative to Wikipedia.

According to the company, Grokipedia includes 885,000 articles that have been created by the artificial intelligence model “Grok AI” by combining various primary sources and licensed content. Elon Musk says that Grokipedia aims to “present only the truth”.

Salient features of Grokipedia

Grokipedia has been made open source, where users can use the ‘It’s Wrong’ button to identify errors. Each article has been added with edit history, fact-check timestamps, and other transparency features so that users can access accurate information.

Comparison with Wikipedia

It should be noted that Wikipedia was founded in 2001 and is run on a donation basis. Users from all over the world can update their articles.

Wikipedia maintains that its content is always based on an “unbiased point of view.” Elon Musk has long been a critic of Wikipedia.

He says that Wikipedia is biased and “influenced by left-wing ideologies.” In 2024, he appealed to users to stop donating to Wikipedia.

Wikimedia Foundation’s response

The initial version 0.1 of Gruwikipedia contains about 885,000 articles, while Wikipedia has more than 7.1 million English articles.

The Wikimedia Foundation responded to the launch of Google Wikipedia, saying, “Wikipedia is, and always will be, a human endeavor. AI companies also rely on this human knowledge. Even Google Wikipedia needed Wikipedia content for training.”

Experts’ opinion

Experts say Google Wikipedia is a new direction, but most of its articles currently rely on the same platform that Elon Musk calls “biased.” Critics say there are some biases on political topics, while the risk of possible errors from artificial intelligence also remains.
