JEDDAH (Kashmir English): Eid-ul-Fitr in Saudi Arabia is announced to be celebrated on Sunday after religious committees confirmed the sighting of the Eid moon through official moon sighting efforts on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, following the sighting of the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Shawwal. The announcement was made on Saturday after multiple moon-sighting committees convened across the country, including in Mecca, Medina, Tabuk, and Dammam.

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had earlier urged citizens and residents to participate in moon sighting efforts and provide testimony if they spotted the crescent. The holy month of Ramadan ended after 29 days, which led to March 30 being designated as the date for the Eid celebration.

The moon-sighting verification process in Sudair was led by the main observation committee which worked with other detection points across Saudi Arabia to determine the sighting. Throughout the nation both monitoring authorities and public observers collaborated toward achieving national consensus about when Ramadan would end and Shawwal would begin.

Eid-ul-Fitr stands as one of the most important holidays. During this period, people gather for prayers in communities and share common festivities through charity events.

Several other nations, such as Qatar, also verified Sunday as the day of Eid-ul-Fitr by relying on their independent moon-sighting reports. Australia with Malaysia, and Indonesia did not view the crescent moon that results in their populations observing Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, March 31.

The authorized bodies request the public to honor safety measures during celebrations while following established regulations regarding public events. The official end of Ramadan and the start of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 celebrations have been declared by the sighting of the new moon by millions of Muslims both within Saudi Arabia and throughout global Muslim communities.

Eid in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is expected to be on Monday.
