KARACHI (Kashmir English): Even with Eid-ul-Adha more than a month away, preparations are already underway to facilitate the Muslim community members in terms of sacrificial animals.
The city’s main cattle market has been opened to the public at the Northern Bypass, with the administration estimating trade of over 300,000 animals this year at the cattle market.
The Northern Bypass cattle market is the largest one in Asia with the city administration striving to address the security and other issues faced by the cattle market.
City Mayor Murtaza Wahab has said that this year cattle markets will not be allowed to be set up everywhere in the metropolis and that the administration will collect taxes from the ones which are established at the designated points.
The administration has said that this year over 300,000 animals are expected to be traded at the market.
Eid preparations
The inauguration of the market marks a key occasion in the preparation ahead of Eid-ul-Adha which holds key social and financial aspect amongst Muslim community.
Last year, the metropolitan city administration had notified 22 sacrificial animal markets where the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was overseeing eight major cattle markets.
Twelve markets fell under the competence of various town municipal corporations and two temporary animal markets were allowed to be set up in cantonment board areas.
