GILGIT (Kashmir English): The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a 100 MW solar plant project in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The project will be completed in a period of 3 years and will cost Rs 24,957 million.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had promised the people of Gilgit-Baltistan during his recent visit that work on the project would begin after ECNEC’s approval.
The Central Development Working Party has already approved the project, and the districts of Astore, Dareel, Tangir, Diamer, and Ghanche will get the electricity from the solar project.
The Prime Minister’s Office has said that the districts of Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Ishkoman, Nagar, and Rundu are also included in the project, and the districts of Skardu and Shigar will also benefit from the 100 MW solar project.
In the first phase, 18.958 MW of electricity will be provided to Skardu district, while in the second phase, Hunza will get 6 MW, Gilgit 28, and Diamer 13.12 MW of electricity.
In the third phase, 16.096 MW of electricity will be provided to the remaining districts, and the project will provide 18.162 MW of off-grid electricity to hospitals and government offices, as per the
